Look Unto Him in Every Thought;

This song was given to me unbidden, but instantly treasured.

In September 2024, I was studying the gospel on my phone and a pop-up  announced that the 2025 Youth Theme for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was “Look Unto Christ.” The scripture reference was Doctrine and  Covenants 6:36. I went to that scripture and read, “Look unto me in every  thought;…” Immediately a tune for those words sang itself in my mind. I recorded it in on my phone. I read the rest of the verse,  “…doubt not, fear not.” Again, a tune for those words sang in my mind and I recorded it.

In moments when that happens to me, I know it is the Spirit gently leading me  along. Throughout the next several weeks I recorded bits of melody. I also continued studying Doctrine and Covenants 6 and the Spirit helped me choose phrases and melodies that matched. Sometimes the words and phrases came together. Other times, I would have to fit the words to the melody and mold the melody and words at the same time.

The song was mostly complete by the middle of November. A few days later I was asked to help choose the theme for a retreat for the women’s organization in my  local church. I was given a website to look at for theme ideas. The two first ideas that came up were, “Look Unto Him,” and  “Doubt not, fear not.” I wondered if I should suggest this theme and my song for our retreat.

I decided to be brave and sang it to two of the committee leaders. They loved it and presented the idea to the rest of the committee, and it became our theme and song.

Suddenly I realized I needed to check on copyright! I quickly submitted a request in early December. A month later I received permission to use these scriptures in the lyrics to this song and to post it on my website. Everything came through just in time, as the retreat was scheduled for later that month.

I am so grateful for the Spirit’s guidance in this endeavor. This song gives me daily strength and courage as I sing and ponder its meaning and possibilities. I hope you enjoy this song from my heart to yours. I gift it to you, as it was gifted to me.

Note: This website has been on the drawing board for two years (and in my  heart for many more). It became available to the public on January 29, 2025, the week of our retreat. This song and the circumstances surrounding it, including the assistance of earthly and heavenly angels, gave me the courage to “Look unto  Christ,” “doubt not, fear not,” and make my  dream become a reality.
